One of the biggest festivals in my little town each year in April is the Ciruela Festival! Ciruelas are little red fruits that are kinda sour/tangy tasting with a big yellow pit on the inside. They are part of the plum family, and are very tasty. For the festival people made all kinds of foods with ciruelas: jams, cookies, cakes, candied and chocolate-covered ciruelas...and even ice cream!

There were all kinds of competitions during the festival for "best jam", "best cake", "best ice cream", etc. etc. along with dance competitions, exhibitions, rides, and lots of vendors selling peruvian items. There was a large parade to start off the festival, followed by a dance contest of "typical peruvian dances" in the main plaza.
