Feliz 2013 Everyone!
I had a wonderful New Years Eve with my host family here in Peru, we ate a big meal right before midnight of "Pollo a la Brasa" which is yummy roasted chicken, which is very popular/famous here, and (of course!) more paneton. Then at the stroke of midnight we ate 12 grapes and in between eating each one we made a wish! Then if you wanted to travel a lot in the coming year, you could run around in the streets with an empty suitcase, or if you wanted to be extra lucky you needed to be sure you were wearing yellow underwear...

Another interesting New Year's Tradition here in Peru is to burn effigy's (life-size) in the street wearing clothes of the person that you love, or wish to love. So at midnight there are also lots of large fires in the streets.
Around here along the lovely coast of Peru, on New Year's Day the tradition is to go to the beach! So I went to Huanchacho, a lovely (but touristy) beach just outside of Trujillo with my host family on New Years Day. We ate delicious raspadillas, which are snow cones with real squeezed juice as syrup, picarones, which are fried donut-like things, and enjoyed a beer on the beach. Not too shabby of a way to bring in the New Year ;)
